1999
The HBS celebrates its 50th anniversary.

1997
The HBS supports the development of an international HACCP manual. This provides the best possible assurance of quality control and product safety.
Information and promotional activities focus on vocational training for butchers. The HBS organises a contest for apprentices and provides training schools with the natural casings fan and video.
A special brochure, in which industry professionals discuss the use of natural casings in sausage production, is circulated to the meat industry.

1995
The HBS Publicity Committee produces a practical natural casings fan for customers, with technical information on natural casings.
In the same year, work starts on production of a video outlining the production process for natural casings.
In January 1995, the European CRAFT research project on 'Improved processing of natural casings to improve the quality of the stuffing process' begins. Eight European companies take part, including two Dutch ones. The project team defines the properties of natural casings and the changes they undergo during processing and stuffing. The project provides a wealth of information on natural casings. As a result, the prototype of an improved knife for separating the casing from the caul is developed. The project also leads to modifications of stuffing machines, to simplify automatic stuffing of natural casings.

After 1980
The HBS starts information and promotional activities for consumers, based on the character 'Hans Worst' (Hans Sausage).

After 1960
The HBS becomes a fully-fledged negotiating partner for government authorities and organisations in the meat sector, on both a national and international level. The Association makes agreements relating to veterinary policy, for example

1949
The traders and processors of slaughter by-products and natural casings decide to set up their own organisation. Today, this is known as the Association of Traders and Processors of Slaughter by-products (HBS).
The Association was first part of the COV, and became independent later.

After 1945
The structure of the industry changes. Product boards are created and the structure of the Commodity Boards changes. For the meat trade, a new organisation is formed: the current Central Organisation for the Meat Sector (COV).

1940
With the outbreak of the Second World War, the Association is disbanded. The German occupying forces develop a structure for the industry. This leads to the creation of the public law bodies, the Commodity- and Product Boards.
Traders and processors of slaughter by-products and natural casings are classed in the 'Domestic Trade, Import and Export of Meat, and Offal's and Casings Traders and Processors' section.
